Design is Zen
March 18th, 2009
Good web design needs to be Zen. You have a small place on the internet reserved for your site, and it’s a great opportunity to show people what your all about. Offering your users a pleasing website will make them more likely to stay awhile and take in the contents of your pages, and having a site that gives off a nice vibe is one of the best ways to achieve this.
Avoid the Annoying
People deal with enough in their life already – the last thing they want to do is fight with a poorly built website. Think of your users as guests to your home, you should try to make them as comfortable as possible. Make sure everything is clean, and that the details of your house are in fine working order. Pay attention to the small details that make people happy, and don’t push them to do things they have no desire to do.
Sometimes Often Simple is Better
The internet has become such a cluttered mess that people are starting to “zone out” when reading pages. Google ad-sense banners are becoming less effective as users start to ignore pages that have too much noise. Often, having a simple site will do a much better job selling your idea than a site with flashing boxes and obnoxious “contact us” banners. A properly built site won’t need to plaster banners everywhere because it will be built in a manner that allows users to find exactly what their looking for.
